Academic Research
This multimodal research delves into the methods utilized by National Football League (NFL) personnel departments in player acquisition and evaluates their adaptability to enhance talent acquisition and mitigate employee turnover in external organizations. While modern recruitment programs are widely employed, many companies grapple with the challenge of securing and retaining top talent, resulting in productivity declines and increased operational expenses. In contrast, NFL teams demonstrate a systematic approach to roster construction in the face of their high player turnover rates.
The research scrutinizes, operational processes, and specialized roles within NFL personnel departments dedicated to player scouting, assessment, and acquisition. Additionally, it investigates prevalent challenges encountered by external organizations in today's labor market, including shortages of skilled workers, prevalent job transitions, and the pervasive issue of employee burnout. Through a multimodal analysis, this research identifies parallels between player acquisition dynamics in the NFL and the talent acquisition practices of external organizations, proposing strategies for external organizations to integrate NFL-inspired personnel tactics to bolster their capacity to attract, nurture, and retain talented employees.
By bridging insights from professional sports team-building and corporate human resources, this research provides actionable recommendations for external organizations to cultivate robust talent pipelines, optimize human capital investments, and sustain competitive advantages through strategic staffing methodologies. The research's findings hold implications for refining an external organization’s talent acquisition strategies, bolstering workforce planning efforts, and fortifying initiatives aimed at enhancing employee retention.
